Research Sites:
Ranomafana National Park

Research Project:
The Ranomafana Propithecus Project

Research Focus:
My research examines the impact of selective logging and habitat disturbance on the behavior and ecology of Propithecus edwardsi, focusing on the Talatakely and Valohoaka Propithecus populations. My dissertation work focused on the impact of disturbance on feeding ecology, examining differences in: 1) habitat quality, 2) food species availability and abundance, and 3) Propithecus diet. Using these data as my foundation, I am currently expanding the study to investigate interpopulation differences in: 1) animal density, 2) activity budgets, 3) ranging patterns, and 4) social structure. The ultimate goal of this study is to understand how the Propithecus population in RNP has adapted to habitat disturbances and then use this information to evaluate the health and sustainability of lemur populations, throughout the rainforest.
