Upperparts generally dark brown mixed with tan. Underparts tan flecked with brown. Head dark brown flecked with tan, tan face, long earlike tufts.

Diet

Little is known. A pellet from the long-eared owl contained bones from either Avahi laniger or Hapalemur griseus griseus, (Goodman, 1993).
